FIFA 16 Career Mode: BPL Best Young Player On Each Position- Premier League Wonderkid XI
There’s no question that 2015–16 has been the most unpredictable Premier League season ever. Leicester City won the title, having never won the top league in England in any era. Only Manchester United is qualified for Champions League spots. Chelsea have languished near the bottom of the table, while Spurs have proved the most consistent of all the big clubs. It’s been weird, but out of the madness has come a silver lining – where established stars are failing to perform, young talent is being given a chance.
So, what does the next generation look like in comparison to the likes of Serie A, La Liga and the Bundesliga? We’ve pulled together a team of the Premier League’s best youngsters – let’s see how it measures up.

Goalkeeper
Jack Butland
If you’re looking for goalkeeper under the age of 22 in the UK, you’ll find yourself out of luck. So, as young keepers go, we’ll take Jack Butland, thanks very much. The Stoke City stopper has been in superb form this season, and earned a well-deserved starting place for England in the recent friendly against Germany, before suffering an unfortunate injury that's ruled him out for Euro 2016. As you'll see from the stats, he’s a very well-rounded 'keeper, and he’ll grow to a potential 84 rating.
Left-back
Luke Shaw
Shaw was just starting to find his feet for club and country when a horrific double leg fracture ended his season. He’s yet to return in real life (though is back in Manchester United training at least), but, in FIFA 16 Career Mode, he’s still a world-class talent – arguably the best young left-back in the game alongside José Gaya and the slightly older David Alaba. His 80+ stats for sliding and standing tackle make him a very versatile full-back, especially when you consider that he has the pace, dribbling and crossing ability to cause headaches in attack as well. And with a potential overall of 88, the sky really is the limit for Shaw.
Centre-back
Kurt Zouma
Chelsea’s big centre-back has been tipped for greatness in FIFA and Football Manager for years now, but this season will surely go down as his coming of age. Despite Chelsea’s struggles, Zouma has been mightily impressive when he’s been on the pitch. His phenomenal physical stats include 85 strength and 84 jumping, and he’s a very solid defender with huge room for improvement, growing from 77 to 87 overall with some training time.
John Stones
Everton’s in-demand centre-half has the exact same overall ratings as Zouma – starting at 77, and growing to a potential 87 – but where Zouma is a powerhouse, Stones is a more technical, well-rounded centre-back. He’s very comfortable carrying the ball into midfield, as evidenced by his 78 short passing and his decent dribbling stat, and although he’s not as physically imposing as Zouma, he starts off as a better tackler, with 80+ ratings for both standing and sliding tackle.
Right-back
Héctor Bellerín
Bellerín has been one of Arsenal’s best performers in yet another season where the Gunners have threatened to win it all, but will probably walk away with nothing. His electric pace down the right hand side is downright disturbing – in fact, EA’s 90 pace rating doesn’t do him justice – and he’s proved himself as a much better player than his stats suggest. Thankfully, his ceiling is around the 84 overall mark, so there’s loads of room to train him up.

Left Mid
Memphis Depay
Say what you like about Depay’s first season in the Premier League, but he’s an absolute killer in FIFA 16 Career Mode – in fact, his 89 potential is one of the highest in the game for a player under 22. On top of that, he’s got stats in all the right places – aside from those fantastic pace and dribbling numbers, his four star skill moves, 88 shot power and 90 free kick rating make him a multi-dimensional threat on your left wing. Alternatively, you could pick up Raheem Sterling for similar money, who is lightning fast and a much better creator than Depay.
Centre-midfield
Nabil Bentaleb
Bentaleb has endured a frustrating season, struggling for form and injury amid Spurs’ relative success. But he’s undeniably talented, and his Career Mode stats reflect that. Stylistically, he’s a classic central-midfielder who can control the flow of a game with his excellent technique and distribution. He has great stamina and good long shooting as well, but realistically he’s still young enough with a high-enough ceiling that you can mould him into whatever you want, with a potential overall of 86.
Ross Barkley
We saw glimpses of Barkley’s prodigious talent last season, but the young attacking midfielder has been one of the Premier League’s best players this season, scoring and creating at an impressive rate. He’s already a superb creator in Career Mode, boasting 81 vision and 84 short passing alongside his excellent dribbling stats, but with a bit of work on his shooting he can become truly world-class, growing up to 87 overall.
Right-midfield
Gerard Deulofeu
Deulofeu hasn’t had the same fanfare as Memphis Depay at Manchester United, but he’s been one of this season’s standout performers for Everton, alongside club-mates Stones and Barkley. It’s not hard to see why when you look at his stats – he’s deadly with the ball at his feet, boasting 92 sprint speed and 89 acceleration, as well as that excellent dribbling stat. His crossing and shooting need some work, but that’s a very achievable goal when he has a potential ceiling of 85 overall.
Striker
Divock Origi
After an embarrassing loan spell with Lille last year where French sports newspaper L’Equipe included him in their Ligue 1 worst XI of the season, Origi has bounced back impressively for Liverpool in 2015–16, scoring some important goals and showing off his considerable assets. Not only is he quick, he’s powerful too, and he has a good eye for goal thanks to his 76 finishing and 77 shot power. His passing stat looks low, but he includes 71 vision and 75 short passing, which makes him perfect as one half of an attacking pair. Plus, he’ll grow up to 86 overall, which is very respectable indeed.
Kelechi Iheanacho
Iheanacho has made a habit of coming off the bench to score important goals for Manchester City this season, and he’ll get a significant stats boost in FIFA 17. Even at just 67 overall, his electric pace makes him a threat, particularly late in games when the opposition are tired, but aside from that he’s a blank canvas – perfect for you to train and mould into a world-class striker. And, thankfully, he has the potential for that too, growing up to 85 overall with time on the training pitch and a few good loan spells.
