Joel Matip Prefers Premier League Newcastle Not Liverpool
According to Calcio Mercato. Schalke defender Joel Matip is open to moving to the Premier League. Premier League Liverpool had expressed an interest in Matip and was ready to discuss a precontract agreement with him.
Matip, the 24-year-old player wanted to join Newcastle last summer but Schalke wanted £10million for the transfer. The deal has not done yet finally. Comparing to Newcastle, Liverpool doesn’t want to spend in January buy will continue to assess potential deals in preparation for the summer.
Matip is a centre-back with 6ft 4in. he is taller and more power than most on United’s books right now.
Though he is not as naturally gifted with the ball at his feet as the likes of Fabricio Coloccini and Chancel Mbemba, the right-footed Matip is also comfortable on the ball and his technique is certainly solid enough.
Despite being right-footed, Matip can play in either of the centre-back positions, and filled in at left centre-half during Schalke’s 3-1 home victory over Hannover 96, which this correspondent attended on Friday.
What’s more, because Matip is comfortable on the ball, he has deputised as a defensive-midfielder in the past – and such versatility interests the Magpies.
